Munch, Edvard

Born

1863

Died

1944

Information   Edvard Munch was the greatest reprensentative of Nordic painting. He is considered a pioneer of Expressionism and deeply influenced German artists. Munch concentrated on grasping the inner life of man. He created numerous self-portraits and representations of basic expierence such as adolescence, sexuality, melancholy, fear and death. Munch showed emotions not only in the actions and suffering of the figures he depicted, but also visualised them in his colours composition, and the flow of his lines. He thus arrived at a formerly unknown density of atmosphere. Munch was also important in the field of graphic art, where he found new means of expression.
