Information   Born in Russia, his family emigrated to the United States in 1913. After his studies at Yale and the Art Students League he worked until 1952 in art education in Brooklyn. In 1950 he created the typical cotrast of a firm and broad background with soft and light color volume. The meditative aspect of Rothko´s paintings differentiate it from the emotional-physical action painting.
