Pollock, Jackson

Born

1912

Died

1956

Information   Most important representative of the American abstract expressionism. Pollock´s view is, that the origin of art lies in the unconscious. His creative principal is totally uncontrolled spontaneity where coincidence plays an essential role. In 1947 he begans with his „drip paintings“ where color is dripped directly from the can on the canvas that lies flat on the ground. The result of this „action painting“ is a weave of color-drops and strings that could symbolize the elemental chaos.
